The Five
Definitions

How your chart is connected — and what that means for how you live, decide, and relate.

Your Definition describes how your defined energy centers are connected to each other. It is one of the most practical parts of your chart — because it explains where you are naturally self-sufficient, where you seek connection, and why certain people and environments make you feel more whole, clear, and alive.

What Is Definition?

How your energy moves through you.

In Human Design, your defined centers are the ones colored in on your chart. They carry consistent, reliable energy — parts of you that show up the same way regardless of who you're with or where you are. Your Definition describes whether and how those defined centers are connected to each other.

Think of it like an electrical circuit. Some people have one continuous circuit — all their defined centers connected in one unbroken loop. Others have two, three, or four separate circuits with gaps between them. And Reflectors have no fixed circuits at all. Where the circuits connect, energy flows consistently. Where there are gaps, something external — a person, an environment — is needed to bridge them.

Your Definition shapes your relationship with other people more fundamentally than almost any other part of your chart. It explains why certain people make you feel complete, why certain environments feel like home, and why others leave you feeling scattered or unclear.

Why It Matters

It explains the pull toward specific people.

Have you ever met someone and immediately felt unusually clear, energized, or like yourself? Have you ever walked into a room and felt suddenly more complete — or more scattered? Have you ever been in a relationship and noticed that around this specific person, everything made more sense?

Definition explains this. For people with Split, Triple Split, or Quadruple Split Definition, other people literally complete circuits inside them. The chemistry you feel is real — it has an energetic explanation. Understanding your Definition doesn't diminish that experience. It helps you navigate it with wisdom instead of confusion.

"Understanding your Definition doesn't explain everything about who you are. But it does explain something essential about how you experience wholeness — and that changes how you choose your people."
