Aura
The energetic field you carry and how it interacts with the world around you.
In Human Design, every Type has a specific aura — an energetic field that extends beyond the physical body and interacts with the auras of others.
What It Means
In plain English.
In Human Design, every Type has a specific aura — an energetic field that extends beyond the physical body and interacts with the auras of others. Manifestors have a closed and repelling aura. Generators have an open and enveloping aura. Projectors have a focused and absorbing aura. Reflectors have a resistant and sampling aura.
Why It Matters
Why you need to know this.
Your aura is the mechanism behind your Type's experience in the world. It's why Manifestors can feel intimidating to others even when they're doing nothing. It's why Generators draw people in. It's why Projectors see so deeply into others — they're literally designed to focus on and absorb the other person's energy.
What It Looks Like In Real Life
Recognizing it in your own life.
A Projector keeps being told she's 'too intense' when she's just listening. Her focused aura sees into people deeply, and that can feel penetrating even when it's caring.
A Generator walks into a room and people naturally gravitate toward her — not because of what she's doing, but because of what she's emanating.
A Manifestor finds that people often feel slightly on edge around her even before she speaks. Her closed aura is designed to protect her initiating energy — it's not hostility.
Common Misunderstandings
What people get wrong.
- Your aura is not something you control through intention or visualization. It's built into your design.
- A 'closed' aura is not negative — it serves a specific purpose for Manifestors.
- Aura interaction doesn't override personal connection — it's the energetic layer beneath it.
